The year-end and New Year holidays' feature

This flea market is one of the traditional events in Setagaya, which has been taking place for more than 440 years and is officially recognized as one of Tokyo's Intangible Folk Cultural Properties.
With more than 700 stalls on both sides of the street, the market is held on Boroichi-dori Street around Daikan Yashiki on Dec. 15 and 16 and Jan. 15 and 16 every year.

Setagaya Plum Blossom Festival

One of the great places to view plum blossoms in Tokyo

"Setagaya Plum Blossom Festival" is held at Hanegi Park every year at the peak of the blossoms on about 650 plum trees, from early Feb. to early Mar.
On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays during the festival, there are various Japanese traditional events, such as koto performance, tea ceremony, and mochi making, along with booths and stalls selling food, plants and flowers, and various items related to plum blossoms, such as "ume-daifuku."

Tengu is thought of as a god who listens to your wishes. Watch as a giant float (3-meter tall and 2-meter wide), decorated with a large tengu mask, parades down the shopping street as people in the area throw lucky beans, hoping for good fortune with family and business. During the festival, in addition to bean throwing, tengu-related goods and items are offered, and various events are held.

Awa Odori is a bon-dance originating from Awa no kuni Province (current Tokushima Prefecture). In Shimokitazawa, during the bon season every August, Awa Odori dance teams perform “nagashi-odori,” where they dance through the streets, and “kumi-odori,” where troupes perform together in one place. The closeness of the dancers and audience creates a great sense of unity.

Sakura-shimmachi Nebuta Festival

The float called “nebuta” is a sight to behold. The Nebuta float, and a big group of dancers called “haneto” dancing and jumping around the floats, parade around the area.
Sakura-shimmachi is known as the town of Sazae-san, a popular manga series. “Sazae-san Nebuta” can only be seen in this festival.

Autumn foliage viewing is a popular autumn activity in Japan. During the season, leaves are colored in red and yellow, creating a gorgeous landscape for lots of people to look at.
